PSC Announcement

Official Capstone Registration is Open

Issue 0

Dear PSC Students, Teachers, and Mentors,

We are so excited to formally invite you to the  2022 Pulsar Science Collaboratory (PSC) Capstone event, which will be held this year at West Virginia University, from May 26-29. If you would like to attend please complete this registration form by May 5th.

Students must have passed their certification test on pulsars.nanograv.org and have inspected 1000 candidate plots in order to attend the Capstone. Please contact me if you would like to come and are concerned about this requirement. It is not as daunting as it might sound!

Students must also present a poster during the Capstone event. This poster could be on independent research, on the plots you’ve inspected, or on any topic of interest in astronomy. You are welcome to present posters with a partner or with a team of students from your school. We will share a poster template that can be used.

As with previous Capstone events, we plan on two full days of activities, including research talks by WVU research faculty and mentors, a PSC student poster session, rooftop telescope observing using the optical and radio telescopes, a special topic panel discussion, and tours of scientific labs on campus.  Both evenings will include fun activities like a planetarium show, bowling and swimming.

Thanks to funding from the National Science Foundation to support the event, there will be no cost to you for the travel to WVU, housing, or meals. You should ideally plan to arrive by the evening of May 26th and leave the morning of May 29th.

Accommodations will be provided in WVU Honors Hall, a nearby hall on campus with a double suite layout (two guests per suite) with a shared bathroom within each suite. Honors Hall is located on the downtown campus of WVU where most activities will be held.  Parking can be arranged for those driving to the Capstone.

Holly Legleiter (hlegleiter@mail.wvu.edu) will be in touch about your travel arrangements and lodging. Please feel free to contact her with questions about these things! And please contact me if you have any other questions about the event!

Best,

Maura
